Who We Are

A note from our founder, Dr. Kiera Penpeci:

After about a decade in the people space as a Black, queer, woman, I quickly developed a deep understanding about the ways systems of oppression in the workplace negatively impacts people outside of the accepted and powerful majority. My work organically shifted from Human Resources to DEI at the same time I was working on my doctorate in Organizational Leadership Psychology, and that wasn’t an accident. As I studied the effects of emotional labor on the sense of belonging, I came to two realizations: DEI initiatives are severely underestimating the need to address mental wellness, especially for those from historically marginalized groups, and we have an opportunity to think about DEI as the complete underpinning of organizational development, not as temporary or separate initiatives.

At Primed OD we help mobilize members of organizations at every level to take ownership of DEI by helping them relate “the work” to their day to day responsibilities. My experience has lent me the privilege of partnering with and supporting leaders at every level, navigating internal organizational structures, organizing on committees and boards, mediating interpersonal conflict, and training/workshop facilitation, to name some of the most rewarding. More recently I’ve become a 200hr registered yoga teacher and facilitate the application of the benefits gained from tending to the mind, body, and spirit on the mat to our day to day lives. I use this experience to enact my mission of priming people to support DEI by making it foundational to their behaviors and sustainable in their work and lives.

We take a modern approach to ‘action research’ by involving our partners closely when interpreting their data. We believe that human to human dialogue is the best way to build trust and bridge understanding.
